After teaching for many years in traditional fitness studios throughout the Chicagoland area, Kate transitioned to a more holistic and customized approach to healing the whole person. Kate is a specialist in women’s wellness, and works with women on their journey towards and throughout motherhood.
Kate understands first-hand the mental and physical challenges of trying to conceive, having undergone several rounds of IVF and IUI’s before having her son in January of 2022. This first-hand knowledge and compassion combined with her years of education and experience in the industry make her a true expert in her work.
Kate studied mindfulness at Chicago State University, and received her certification in Trauma-Informed Care from the Institute on Trauma at the University at Buffalo Center for Social Research. Kate has completed Jon Kabat-Zinn’s eight week MBSR course, and the 100 hour Meditation Teacher Training at Chill Chicago, where she has also had the privilege of leading workshops and working with their teacher trainees. Kate is Yoga for 12 Step Recovery Certified and Prison Yoga Certified. Kate currently works for the National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI) Chicago, and guides corporate meditations and private sessions in meditation and mindfulness throughout the United States. As a yoga instructor, Kate has taught at Corepoweryoga, Ritual Hot Yoga, Yoga 6, Yoga 2point0, and pullingdownthemoon.
Off the yoga mat and meditation cushion, Kate is a professional musician, and enjoys incorporating her knowledge of breath work, chanting, and music into her healing practices.
My husband and I struggled with infertility for several years, and I experienced first-hand the difficult roller coaster of emotions that accompany trying to conceive. I learned to navigate this challenging road by taking care of my body through safe fertility-friendly yoga and clearing my mind through grounding meditation.
After we finally brought our rainbow baby home from the hospital, I was shocked and surprised to experience postpartum anxiety and depression, and quickly realized that there are not enough resources to assist new moms, nor are we talking about how difficult the postpartum time can be too. From difficulty breastfeeding, to lack of sleep to hormonal and physical changes, new mothers are not only learning how to care for a newborn, but getting to know a different version of themselves.
Becoming a mother is the biggest transition and most life altering change you will ever experience. The time leading to, throughout, and after a pregnancy is unpredictable and stressful. Anxiety, depression, and feelings of being overwhelmed are the primary health concerns most women articulate, and yet they don’t take the time to prioritize their physical and mental health.
What are you doing to take care of you so that you can be the best version of yourself for your family?
